Food as Medicine Partners

We are forever grateful to our partners who help us get our healthy foods into the hands of those who need it most.

Meals on Wheels of Southwest Ohio & Northern Kentucky

We are happy to have the first-of-its-kind partnership between Meals on Wheels (MOW) America and a food rescue nonprofit. This partnership allows La Soupe to expand upon its mission to reduce food waste and food insecurity, working with MOW to get fresh, chef-driven, medically tailored recipes to seniors to improve their quality of life.

MOW seniors on Cardiac and Diabetic diets can select a La Soupe MTM on their weekly meal orders, giving them more variety and options to choose from. Seniors receiving congregate meals can have our Nourish desserts that replace highly processed items such as Oreos to get a further tasty boost of nutrition and improve their quality of life.

Pilot Programs

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital

Throughout 2024 and 2025, we are working with Dr. Roohi Karofa and her researchers at the HealthWorks! clinic inside Children’s Hospital that combats childhood obesity by promoting healthier eating habits and increased physical activity.

MTMs have not been studied in children, so this pilot study aims to determine the feasibility and acceptability of providing MTMs to kids at no charge who are facing food insecurity and are seen in a pediatric weight management clinic.

Children enrolled in the program must be experiencing food insecurity and will receive 10 nutritious meals per week, delivered directly to their homes, for a duration of 12 weeks.

Throughout the program, onsite Registered Dietitian Nutritionists at the HealthWorks! Clinic provides nutrition education.

At the conclusion of the 12 weeks, participants take part in a hands-on cooking class led by our Educate team, where they learn to prepare their favorite meals from the program. Data on feasibility, acceptability, health outcomes, and cost-effectiveness will be collected and analyzed at the end of the study.

We are excited for the opportunity to join Dr. Francoise Knox Kazimierczuk’s research study titled “Culinary & Nutrition Education Program using The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Life’s Essential Eight.”

This research is focused on cardiovascular disease prevention and management for Black/African American birthing people residing in Hamilton County, Ohio.

La Soupe will provide Medically Tailored Meals free of charge to the participants to help address pregnancy-related hypertension and to reduce infant and maternal morbidity, specifically in Black women.

Half of the MTMs will follow the African Heritage Diet, a way of eating that celebrates the traditional foods, flavors, and cooking techniques of African American, African, Caribbean, and South American cuisines. It emphasizes whole, plant-based foods and traditional cooking methods that have sustained African heritage communities for generations.
