PILOT PROGRAMS
Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center Hospital - HealthWorks! Program
Throughout 2024 and 2025, we are working with Roohi Karofa and her researchers at the HealthWorks! clinic inside Children’s Hospital that combats childhood obesity by promoting healthier eating habits and increased physical activity. MTMs have not been studied in children, so this pilot study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of providing MTMs to kids at no charge who are facing food insecurity and are seen in a pediatric weight management clinic. Children who are enrolled must be facing food insecurity and receive 10 meals per week for 12 weeks, delivered directly to their homes. Nutrition education is provided by onsite Registered Dietitian Nutritionists at the HealthWorks! Clinic. At the end of the 12 weeks, the children participate in a cooking class by our Educate team to learn how to make their favorite meals they ate during the study. Feasibility, acceptability, health outcomes, and cost-saving data will be collected and analyzed upon study completion.
UC Health Maternal Health Pilot Program
We are excited for the opportunity to join Dr. Francoise Knox Kazimierczuk’s research study titled “Culinary & Nutrition Education Program using The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Life’s Essential Eight.” This research is focused on cardiovascular disease prevention and management for Black/African American birthing people residing in Hamilton County, Ohio. La Soupe will provide Medically Tailored Meals free of charge to the participants to help address pregnancy-related hypertension and to reduce infant and maternal morbidity, specifically in Black women. Half of the MTMs will follow the African Heritage Diet, a way of eating that celebrates the traditional foods, flavors, and cooking techniques of African American, African, Caribbean, and South American cuisines. It emphasizes whole, plant-based foods and traditional cooking methods that have sustained African heritage communities for generations.
